Welcome, 2011!

Hello everyone, and, um, re-welcome to my blog? I only ever made one post here, back in September, but then my life got a little too hectic. Since my last post, I have completed my last semester of college and completed a run as a cast member in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. And now, like so many of those in my age bracket, I find myself in a kind of limbo- I haven't applied to grad school yet, I don't have a job, and I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life. So what am I going to devote my time to (other than flash games and Food Network)?

Blogging, of course!

I figure hey, why not? I watch Food Network and Cooking Channel daily, and I'm obsessed with watching makeup gurus on YouTube, so why not offer my petty opinions on the topics to the public via the internet?  Plus, I have a new laptop (a pretty, green Sony Vaio) and a gorgeous white Kitchenaid mixer, so I think I'm ready to tackle the world, don't you?

Aaaanyway, regular blogging starts tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Hello World! (And September favorites)

Hello to the OnSugar network. My name is Bethany, I'm 22, and I decided that my first post here will be my favorite things involving beauty and food for the month of September. So, let's get started!

This month didn't bring any new products to my hair routine, but I did make a major purchase: a full-sized container of Lush's R&B Hair Moisturizer. I had been given a sample the month before, and used it all up, only to find that the store was all out! I gave them my number and they called me a few days later when they got it back in stock. This stuff does wonders for my hair. At night, I part my freshly-washed hair and put a dime-sized amount on each side, then braid it and go to bed. When I take the braids out in the morning, my hair is wavy and gorgeous.

I overhauled my entire skincare routine this month! I found that my Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Scrub wasn't doing its job anymore after two years of loyal use (sad face!) so I went to my CVS and got some travel-sized products to try out. Here's the ones I ended up purchasing full sized bottles of:

Cetaphil Daily Face Cleanser

I had heard all kinds of love stories about this stuff all over the internet, so I decided to try it out, and I love it! The pump bottle works great in the shower, it gets even the most stubborn eyeliners off my face, and it leaves my skin feeling nice and smooth and clean without roughing it up and turning it all red and icky.

St. Ives Naturally Clear Blemish & Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub

The sample I had was the regular kind, but I felt I needed a bit more oomph, so when I needed to purchase a full-sized version, I went with this one, with Salicylic Acid. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to this stuff and I actually get excited on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays because those are my designated "exfoliating days."

Karma Soap

I didn't get a sample of this first, but I picked it up at the same time I bought the R&B. I've been using Karma Komba shampoo bars for about a year now, and I absolutely love the scent, so I figured I'd pick up a bar of the matching soap and some of the next product. I was not disappointed. This has made both me and my bathroom smell amazing.

Karma Kream Body Lotion

I have the $3 sample size of this right now, but I plan on picking up a full-sized one the next time I stop by Lush. Not only goes this lotion smell heavenly, it moisturizes the very dry skin on my arms, legs, and hands. Yes, I have oily facial skin but dry body skin. Go figure.

Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing

</strong>The same night I got the things at Lush, I stopped by the Sephora because I was out of concealer and in the market for a new one. The girl working there recommended this to me after I had tried several and had them come out too dark on me. I'm glad I took her suggestion, because this stuff is really effective. It covers my undereye circles and blemishes in a way my old concealer only wishes it could do, and it lasts a long time!

At the same time, I decided to pick up two shadows that have become pretty infamous in the online beauty world: Make Up For Ever shadows #2 (matte yellow) and #92 (matte purple). The color payout is incredible on these, and they are smooth and blendable. My only complaint is that #92 stained my eyelids, even over a primer.

OPI Catherine The Grape, from the Russian collection, has been my go-to color lately. I bought it because of the name (shh, my actual name's Catherine), but I ended up loving the color. It's kind of hard to find, I got mine on Amazon a few months ago, but it's worth seeking out!

Orly Bonder Basecoat

Okay, I'll admit it, my mom bought this for herself and I kinda took it over. But this basecoat is awesome. It's just sticky enough to catch the color but not be a messy nuisance, dries quickly, and makes my polish last a few days longer.

Food and Drink

V8 V-Fusion Light Juice Blends

I don't eat vegetables. I know I should, but they just don't appeal to me. So, when I saw these juices on sale at the grocery store, I figured it would be a good way to get the nutrients vegetables have to offer in a very lazy but tasty way. I try to drink a glass a day.
